Why it matters

The most leveraged hire a leader can make

An Executive Assistant isn’t admin support. A great EA is leverage: they protect a leader’s time, carry the detail, and quietly keep commitments from falling through the cracks. Hire well and the whole leadership team feels it. Hire badly and you’ll feel that too.

01

Time back

A great EA gives a busy leader hours back every week: the diary, the inbox, the travel, the follow-ups that would otherwise swallow a morning.

02

Trust

EAs see everything: board papers, salaries, the conversations that never leave the room. Judgement and discretion matter as much as skills, so that’s what we test for.

03

The glue

The best EAs quietly run the rhythm of a business: meetings that start on time, decisions that get followed up, visitors who feel looked after.

The process

What to expect when you hire with us

01

The brief

We dig into the role behind the title: the leader’s working style, the rhythm of the office, what good actually looks like. Chemistry matters more in this hire than almost any other.

02

The shortlist

A focused shortlist of genuinely available people, usually inside two weeks, with our honest read on each: strengths, watch-outs, and why they’d move.

03

The landing

Interviews that test real EA skills like calendar triage, judgement and discretion. Then we handle references, the offer and a proper check-in after the start.

Questions

EA recruitment, answered

What does an Executive Assistant actually do?

A great EA runs the machinery around a leader: diary and inbox management, board meeting preparation, minute taking, travel and events, stakeholder handling and follow-ups. The best ones work ahead of their executive, clearing problems before they land.

What's the difference between an EA, a PA and a Team Assistant?

An EA supports one or two senior leaders and carries real delegated authority. A PA leans more personal and diary-focused. A Team Assistant supports a wider group, keeping projects and admin moving for the whole team. Titles vary between businesses, so we always recruit to the actual scope, not the label.

How long does it take to hire an EA?

For a permanent EA we usually present a focused shortlist inside two weeks, with most searches completed in four to six. If you need cover sooner, temporary EAs can often start within days while the permanent search runs.

What should we look for when hiring an EA?

Skills get someone to the interview; chemistry and judgement decide whether the hire works. Look for calendar command, discretion with sensitive information, and a working style that fits the leader they will support. That fit is what we spend the most time testing.

Can we hire an EA on a temporary or contract basis?

Yes. We place EAs in temporary, fixed-term contract and permanent roles across Auckland and New Zealand. Temp and contract EAs are a common way to cover leave, projects or a sudden gap, and some convert to permanent once the fit is proven.

How much should we pay an EA in New Zealand?

It depends on the scope: supporting a CEO with board responsibilities pays differently to supporting a manager, and Auckland rates differ from regional ones. We benchmark every brief against the live market, so ask us for a current read on your specific role.

Hiring an EA, or ready to be someone's right hand?

If you’re hiring, tell us about the brief. If you’re an EA thinking about your next move, see the roles we’re working on now or meet the team you’d be dealing with. And for straight-talking reads on the market, there’s always Recruitment Rambles.
